  36. The story:

  38. This is my first attempt to make a proper program for the Amiga. As some
  39. may know I love (electronic)music and compose it myself. Of course I have
  40. been using(and still use) several of the best Amiga song(module) players
  41. around. But I found them to be overfeatured, with tons of menu options and
  42. window gadgets and supporting tons of formats noone will be likely to have
  43. ever heard about ;-) In other words, in an attempt to cover everything
  44. audio and what not they became sort of overkill.... to me at least.
  45.  
  46. Hence my motivation to make a song/audio/module, whatever the name should
  47. be, player. 
  48.  
  49. Besides the Amiga I`ve been developing on several other platforms, the
  50. C=64, for job(s): the IBM AS/400 and some other platform widely used,
  51. which I prefer to forget.
  52.  
  53. Tools used:
  54.  
  55. Amiga 1200 with a 175 mHz ppc/25 mHz 040 powerup card and 32 mb of memory.
  56. Blitz Basic, a great programming language for which some of the best games
  57. ever have been made and are being made. Also very good for application 
  58. development. Coffee, tea, gym, team fortress quaking(try 137.226.116.82 for 
  59. that :) to keep my sanity ;-)

  61. The program:

  63. Ok, as you know by now this program plays modules of different formats.
  64. The formats currently supported are:
  65.  
  66.     * Med, Octamed, Soundstudio(thus 4 channel, 8 channel and the newest octamed 
  67.       soundstudio up to 64 channel formats)
  68.  
  69.     * Pt module(the standard mod format)
  70.  
  71.     * Digibooster through AHI(a new composing program becoming pretty 
  72.       popular)
  73.  
  74.     * IFF 8 bit samples, direct from disk(so no memory limitations)  
  75.  
  76. The most widely used formats are covered as far as I`m concerned(after all
  77. I started to make this for myself to begin with ;). There will appear some
  78. more support for other formats(see `future`) and if you think I missed out 
  79. something really obvious, tell me.

  85.     several octamed related libraries(included)
  86.     dbplayer.library (included)
  87.     libraries for powerpacker and xpk(included)

  92.     * Multi format(of course :)
  93.     * PLAYLIST!
  94.     * Support for xpk`ed and powerpacked files, decrunching in
  95.       fastmemory if available.
  96.         * `App` support, thus drag and drop on window, appicon or
  97.       appmenu(shift select) 
  98.     * Plays (octa)med, soundstudio and digibooster songs from
  99.       fastmemory if available.
  100.     * Fast and easy gadtools GUI
  101.     * Soundperiod displayed with PT modules(working on it for other
  102.       formats)
  103.     * Usage of standard libraries for replay and decrunch, except PT
  104.       modules and IFF 8 bit samples. (hm is that a feature or laziness? ;)
  105.         * Able to load in ANY file and attempt to play it, asking you
  106.       beforehand of course(see and listen for yourself ;) Might be
  107.       usefull for the few people who love weird sounds, some files give 
  108.       perfect sounds for a psychedelic electro song :-D 
  109.         * Reasonably small and fast, doesnt use up much resources. Needs
  110.       very little memory to run
  111.     * Works on all cpu types(as far as i know) and maybe even on Amiga
  112.       os <2.0, not tested though.

  124. I have fixed all the bugs I found so far, except:

  126. This program should support sid songs, but I haven`t got that working yet. 
  127. It`ll load sids in and all(If you`ve got the playsid library), it just doesn`t 
  128. want to make any sound.

  131. For the rest I do not know of any bugs present, that doesn`t mean however
  132. that there are not any bugs, most likely there are(as in any program). if
  133. you find some, contact me.

  137.     * SID songs working properly! ;-)
  138.     * 16 bit sample support
  139.     * fast forward and rewind on other than PT modules
  140.     * showing of period on other than PT modules
  141.     * more formats(tell me)
  142.     * `jukebox` option, randomly/sequentially play songs, or a 
  143.       `playlist`.
  144.     * mp3 support(maybe!)
  145.     * more I can`t think of(it`s 4.23 in the night now :)
